This is an image of the female artist named I Blame CoCo. We can't see her full pose because of the close shot, however her eye contact is making a synthetic personalisation, making a relationship between her and the audience. She looks fierce and angry, which is linked to her music being indie and the lyrics being about negative relationships and break-ups. Her eye-line is in the middle of the photograph, making her have confidence and not scared of what people will think. Due to the close up distance, it allows her to show the tension on her face clearly, which again links in with her emotive lyrics. The lighting has been quite bright, so that her dark hair and checked shirt contrast on the black and white saturation. Her costume in masculine, along with her hair being messy and scruffy looking, which also links into the dark eye-shadow, again contrasting the difference between black and white/grey. This shows dominance and power over the audience. However, she is wearing the lightest bit of lip balm, which also suggests slight femininity.
This is an image of a solo artist, named Laura Marling. The image shows her almost hiding low in a corner with her arms closed suggesting closed body language with her arms crossed and legs scrunched up and her personality being shy, with drawn and timid. Her make-up is natural, making her look plain and obedient, showing her true beauty and how maybe she likes to show her natural self. She is making direct eye contact with the audience but it is above the middle of the image, suggesting that she is an inspiration character and making people look up to her as an idol. Marling's clothing is again basic and boyish, but her curly hair and natural pinkness in her lips give a sign of femininity. Because she is wearing black tights and t-shirt, they stand out more than her neutral face and blonde hair against the brick wall, this suggests that she doesn't like to maybe the centre of attention constantly. Her clothing is quite loose suggesting almost laziness and that she does not care for what she looks like. The props used are the wall and the wood that she is cradled on. These suggest loneliness and independence, for that she does not need bold objects to make her stand out in a crowd. The music she writes is mainly based on relationships and self esteem, representing again her closed body language for that she does not show her true self to many people.
Impact on my ideas
I have decided to use a dominant close-up image for my 2-page spread of a female to show female power towards males. I will make it represent power by making the eye contact look towards the audience and show control over the image. Making the model create a relationship with the audience. However for my cover page, I have decided to use a medium close-up of several models in boyish, simple outfits with little make-up and I plan to loser the saturation level to make them look professional but still realistic by using props such as trees, walls and cigarettes to link in with my target audience being students.
